Rawalpindi’s Peshawar Road underpasses at Race Course Chowk and Charing Cross have reached approximately 60% overall physical progress, according to a briefing reported by the Associated Press of Pakistan on October 15.

Commissioner Salman Ghani inspected both construction sites and directed the executing agencies to complete the projects by November while maintaining quality standards. The update provides a progress checkpoint for a corridor where construction is still affecting everyday access.

Work completed and still underway

Major structural work, including piling, deck slabs and capping beams, has been completed. Excavation, drainage, utility relocation, barriers and surface roads remain under construction.

The Race Course underpass is designed with two northbound lanes and three surface lanes for turning traffic. Charing Cross will provide two southbound underpass lanes alongside two surface lanes.

Completion remains a target

For nearby residents and businesses, November remains a completion target. The latest report does not announce an opening date or confirm that either underpass is ready for traffic.
