LAHORE, October 5, 2026: Five Punjab road PPP projects covering 318 kilometres were digitally inaugurated by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on October 4, bringing a new operating and maintenance arrangement to routes around Faisalabad, Narowal and Muridke.
Private contractors will be responsible for toll collection, maintenance, repairs and rehabilitation for seven years. Electronic toll plazas are also planned, according to a government spokesperson cited by Associated Press of Pakistan.

Which Punjab road PPP projects are included?
- Muridke–Narowal Road: 80km
- Shakargarh–Narowal Road: 33km
- Faisalabad Ring Road: 97km
- Faisalabad–Sahianwala Road: 52km
- Faisalabad–Samundri–Rajana Road: 56km
The Punjab government expects the programme to generate Rs22 billion in revenue. Radio Pakistan’s October 4 report also says four additional roads are intended to move to the PPP model. The revenue figure remains an official projection.
An operating milestone for existing corridors
The Punjab Public Private Partnership Authority’s earlier published road portfolio already included these corridors within its operation and maintenance programme. The October 4 launch therefore marks progress in that programme’s implementation. Its significance lies in the responsibility for running and maintaining the routes.
imlaak analysis: why property users should watch
For businesses and households along these roads, the practical issue is the quality and cost of everyday access. Reliable road surfaces, drainage, clear signs and efficient toll processing can make a location easier to use. Any improvement will depend on the standard of service delivered over the contract term.
Commercial occupiers should assess the route their staff, customers and deliveries actually use. Housing buyers should check the connection between the property and the road, including the last stretch of local access. A project being near a named corridor does not establish an authorised entrance or a convenient junction.
For developers, the useful next step is to document those connections and transport costs accurately when describing a location. Access claims should be checked against the exact site and the relevant authority’s permissions.
Uncertainties and buyer checks
The launch reports reviewed do not give a detailed toll tariff, an operating date for each electronic plaza or measured journey-time savings. Those details matter before households or businesses estimate recurring travel costs.
There is also no evidence in these announcements establishing an increase in nearby plot prices, rents or investment returns. Property-specific approvals, usable access, utilities and actual tenant demand still need separate verification.
The next meaningful indicators are published operating notices and observable maintenance performance. They will show how the announced management change translates into conditions on the ground.
