Punjab’s Provincial Development Working Party has approved the Rawalpindi Ring Road R-3 scheme from Banth to Thalian at a cost of Rs51.326 billion, according to an Associated Press of Pakistan report published on October 12, 2026.

The scheme forms the largest component of a Rs63.05 billion package approved at the PDWP’s ninth meeting of the 2026–27 financial year, chaired by Punjab Planning and Development Board Chairman Dr Naeem Rauf.

The package also includes Rs3.724 billion for dualisation of Muzaffargarh Road between Jauharabad and Chowk Grote in Khushab, and Rs8 billion for the revised Plant for Pakistan initiative.

Context for the Ring Road corridor

The Banth–Thalian project is an existing development. In its August 17 report on RDA’s 2026–27 budget, APP described it as a 38.3-kilometre main carriageway connecting Banth on the N-5 with Thalian on the M-2. That report separately identified a Phase-II feasibility and design study for the route from Thalian to G.T. Road.

What the latest approval establishes

The October announcement reports an approved scheme cost. It gives no new opening date, construction-completion percentage or confirmation that the full amount has been released.

For readers tracking nearby property developments, the next useful milestones are official updates on construction, interchange access and the road’s opening.
