Islamabad High-Rise Fire Safety Gaps Exposed
The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has identified serious Islamabad High-Rise Fire Safety Gaps following a preliminary survey of public and private buildings across the federal capital. According to the findings, nearly 70% of Islamabad’s 6,500 high-rise buildings lack functional fire safety and hazard control systems, raising concerns over emergency preparedness and resident safety.
The survey also revealed that more than 70% of buildings are operating without approved fire safety plans or completion certificates, both of which are mandatory under existing building regulations. Approximately 300 government buildings were included in the assessment, highlighting that the issue extends beyond private developments.
The findings were reviewed during a high-level meeting chaired by Islamabad’s Chief Commissioner, with participation from senior CDA officials, district administration representatives, and Capital Emergency Services. The survey was initiated on the direction of federal authorities to assess the overall state of fire safety and hazard management in the city’s growing number of high-rise structures.
In response to the findings, the CDA has issued formal notices to building owners and management bodies, directing them to submit valid fire safety and hazard control certificates within 15 days. Officials have warned that failure to comply may result in strict enforcement actions, including penalties or sealing of non-compliant buildings.
Authorities have also instructed emergency services and relevant departments to intensify inspections and follow-up actions to ensure compliance. The Islamabad High-Rise Fire Safety Gaps report underscores the urgent need for stricter oversight, improved enforcement of building codes, and greater accountability to prevent potential fire-related disasters in densely populated areas of the capital.
