Murree Master Plan Development Underway
The government has begun implementing the Murree Master Plan Development to systematically upgrade infrastructure, tourist facilities and urban amenities across the popular hill station of Murree. The plan aims to turn Murree into a well-organized, environmentally sustainable and economically vibrant destination for both domestic and international tourists.
Under the Murree Master Plan Development, priority has been given to widening and rehabilitating major access roads to improve traffic flow and reduce seasonal congestion. Key roads connecting Murree with neighbouring districts will be upgraded, while internal city routes are set to receive new paving, drainage and safety-enhancing features.
Tourism infrastructure is also a major focus. New parking facilities, designated viewpoints, public rest areas and signage will be developed to better manage the influx of visitors during peak seasons. In addition, the plan includes upgraded public amenities such as restrooms, information kiosks and waste management systems to ensure a cleaner, more comfortable experience for families and travellers.
Environmental preservation has been highlighted as a central pillar of the Murree Master Plan Development. Measures to protect forests, regulate hillside construction, manage stormwater and prevent landslides are being incorporated into the planning and execution phases. Landscaping projects, tree planting initiatives, and efforts to reduce pollution in key recreational zones are underway to maintain Murree’s natural beauty.
Local authorities are coordinating with provincial departments, tourism boards and community stakeholders to ensure the plan is executed transparently and efficiently. Public awareness campaigns are also being launched to encourage responsible tourism and civic participation.
Officials say the Murree Master Plan Development will not only improve visitor experience but also create employment, stimulate local businesses, and enhance living standards for residents. With systematic implementation now underway, Murree is poised to become a model hill station that balances growth with environmental stewardship.
