PRA Tax Crackdown Targets Punjab Cafés & Restaurants
The Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) has launched an intensified enforcement campaign against tax defaulters across the province. In a recent series of surprise inspections in Lahore, Gujranwala, and Sargodha, records were confiscated from fifteen businesses including cafés, restaurants, and marquees accused of withholding collected sales tax.
According to the PRA, records from four marquees, five cafés, and six restaurants were seized during the operation. The authority has confirmed that strict penalties will be imposed on those found guilty of collecting sales tax from customers but failing to deposit it in the provincial treasury.
Dedicated enforcement teams have been deployed across Punjab to ensure compliance by all service-sector businesses, particularly those in the food, hospitality, and event management industries. The PRA emphasized that this crackdown is part of a larger strategy to enhance provincial tax collection without introducing new taxes or increasing existing rates.
This renewed focus on compliance demonstrates the government’s determination to close revenue gaps, increase transparency, and ensure fair competition among businesses. The PRA Tax Crackdown Punjab highlights the importance of proper record-keeping, accurate reporting, and timely tax remittance.
Business owners are being advised to strictly adhere to tax laws, integrate electronic invoicing systems, and maintain transparent billing practices to avoid legal consequences. By enforcing stricter oversight, the PRA aims to create a level playing field for all registered taxpayers and strengthen Punjab’s fiscal framework.
The ongoing PRA Tax Crackdown Punjab is expected to expand further in coming weeks as part of the authority’s mission to improve compliance, increase revenue collection, and promote accountability in the province’s service sectors.
