The Punjab Horticulture Authority (PHA) has expanded its green development strategy by launching the Punjab Adopt-a-Park Scheme across multiple cities in the province. The initiative aims to improve urban greenery, strengthen public participation, and enhance the maintenance of parks through community and institutional support.

Under the Punjab Adopt-a-Park Scheme, individuals and organisations will be able to adopt parks of their choice and take responsibility for their upkeep and beautification. The programme, which was initially introduced in Lahore, is now being extended to other Punjab cities as part of a broader effort to create cleaner, greener, and more accessible public spaces.

At the same time, PHA is developing new parks in key urban centres including Sargodha, Multan, Faisalabad, and Rawalpindi. Planning is also underway for additional districts such as Jhang, Rahim Yar Khan, Khushab, Nankana Sahib, Sheikhupura, Okara, Gujrat, Jhelum, Murree, Khanewal, and Muzaffargarh. Alongside new park development, existing parks are being rehabilitated and beautified to improve environmental quality and public access.

Officials say the Punjab Adopt-a-Park Scheme aligns with the provincial vision of improving urban environments and expanding green cover, especially in underdeveloped and remote districts. Meetings between horticulture agencies have also focused on performance reviews, landscape enhancement, and exploring ways to make these agencies more financially sustainable.

The expansion of new parks and the rollout of the Punjab Adopt-a-Park Scheme reflect a wider commitment to sustainable urban planning, environmental conservation, and community engagement. By encouraging local ownership of public spaces, the programme is expected to improve park maintenance standards while promoting a stronger civic connection to urban greenery across Punjab.
